RPC Superfos enhance tub and lid redesign for Müller’s spreadable butter
27 Jul 2018 --- Two variations of a bespoke tub from RPC Superfos, one featuring a lid from RPC Bebo, are being used for a new spreadable butter from Müller Group, Germany’s largest dairy company. The convenient and attractive tubs were developed and prototyped at the RPC Superfos Innovation Centre in Denmark.
One version of the butter, produced for Müller’s premium Weihenstephan brand, features an injection-molded tub and lid; the other, a private label product sold via major supermarkets in Germany, combines an injection-molded tub with a thermoformed lid from RPC Bebo, complete with state-of-the-art decoration using the division’s patented pre-printing technology, Bebo Print.
Both packs combine easy handling with a soft flowing shape and combinations of vivid colors to reflect the taste and spreadability, even when cold, of the butter inside. The injection-molded lid features a flap that ensures easy and reliable opening and closing and produces a satisfying click when resealed.
RPC Superfos and RPC Bebo refined and made technically feasible an initial design created for Müller Group by an external design agency. Müller’s Senior Packaging Developer Martin Kunst has been extremely happy with the two divisions’ service and capabilities:
“The RPC Superfos Innovation Centre is absolutely sophisticated and very inspirational. It is quite exceptional to have access to an advantage of this caliber. We tested a few versions of our pack and it proved to be truly valuable and useful to produce a small number of packs so that we could achieve the perfect solution.”
“We have enjoyed working with RPC on both projects and have experienced seamless communication and smooth project management,” he continues. “At all times, all team members knew about all steps of the packaging development project. It has been a one-stop-shop experience, even though one of the solutions involved two suppliers.”
With the spreadable butter already having proved popular with German consumers, Müller Group is now considering introducing its new product to several export markets.
