22 Feb 2019 --- In packaging news this week, Sealed Air has expanded its Asia Pacific presence with the acquisition of MGM, a printing and laminating flexible packaging specialist headquartered in the Philippines. In another big business move, pharmaceutical packaging supplier ACG Group has opened a US$93 million capsules manufacturing plant in Brazil. Innovative new launches this week included RKW’s “super sustainable” stretchable shrink film, which is unique in that it can be cut smaller than the pallet size and pulled over the palletized goods.

Stripping back and cleaning up: Bride Valley taps into minimalistic wine design trend

04 Feb 2019 --- English sparkling wine producer Bride Valley has released its latest variant – a Cremant – in a “stripped back” minimalistic theme designed to differentiate the product in an increasingly “saturated wine market.” When crafting the original visual identity, design agency Lewis Moberly introduced a three-toned label around the neck of each bottle that “subliminally represents” the layers of the rich soil that gives the Bride Valley range its refined flavor.

In the Loop: Unilever launches array of premium reusable packaging solutions

The rollouts represent the FMCG giant’s first involvement in the landmark Loop initiative. 29 Nov 2018 --- Australian family-owned winery De Bortoli Wines has won the inaugural Winery Innovator of the Year trophy at the prestigious International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) in London this month. The winery was recognized for continuing to be at the forefront of Australia’s pale dry Rosé movement, particularly for its unique packaging on its new Rosé Rosé which features a color side-embossed screw cap that is the first registered closure decoration of its kind in the world.

Glass milk bottles: Australian dairy turns back time in bid to end plastic scourge

23 Nov 2018 --- Australian dairy company Big River Milk is seeking funding in order to discontinue the use of plastic bottles and revert back to glass bottles to package its milk. The milk industry produces billions of single-use plastic bottles every year and the New South Wales company says it wants to start delivering fresh milk in rewashable and refillable glass bottles to help prevent the scourge of plastic pollution.

Ardagh announces testing third quarter amid US automation speculation

12 Nov 2018 ---  Global metal and glass packaging specialists Ardagh has announced a 9 percent drop in profits while recording a 3 percent increase in revenue in its third quarter financial results. Overall revenue was recorded at US$2.39 billion, however profit prior to tax shows a 9 percent decrease (US$400 million). Lower earnings in glass packaging in the US and metal packaging in Europe, in addition to cost inflation, are reasons for the profit decrease.

Bühler Group acquires leading US vacuum coating specialists

23 Aug 2018 --- US manufacturer of precision vacuum components Sputtering Components will become a member of the Bühler Group. Bühler is purchasing all shares from the previous owners. SCI is a provider of components and subassemblies for large-area vacuum coating systems. Post-acquisition, SPI will operate as an autonomous unit of the vacuum coating business of Bühler Leybold Optics.

M&S lightweight salad dressing bottles in bid to decrease food waste

02 Aug 2018 --- Beatson Clark are supplying M&S with smaller, more stylish bottles for the supermarket’s own-brand salad dressing. The repackage comes after English Provender Company (EPC) conducted research for M&S which found that customers thought the existing salad dressing bottle was too big. As a result, they often threw away the unfinished product when they felt it had passed its use-by date, creating unnecessary waste.
